Lego.
Friend of children everywhere and bearer of the idyll of youth.
Little do you know that something sinister may be going on when you aren’t around.
To prove this outlandish theory, I planted cameras around the town to see what happens when they think they are alone.
Ok, nothing here. Just a curious child out a little late. Not sure what is so interesting about that tree in the first place, but who am I to judge. You really should be getting off to bed now.
Wait, what’s this?
Hey, you! What are you doing up this late, in full chef garb no less?
Hmm, he appears to have snuck in the back. Looks pretty shifty to me.
What could he possibly be doing?
Cooking? Surely he wouldn’t have to sneak around in the dark to perform such an innocent task.
No, no one actually breaks out the pots and pans for a midnight snack. There is something more going on than meets the eye.
Well, that chef seems to be preoccupied so let’s check up on the vet.
Not here, so perfectly normal.
Seems to have left his light on though. Hey, you think I’m made of money? I am the one paying for that, you know!
Wait a minute, there he is? What could he possibly be doing up so late? The veterinarian was just standing there, staring off into space.
So is everyone else. There’s something big going down, I tell you.
Whether at work,
or at home,
or at play,
the minifigures are all just standing there. Staring. Not moving.
Pretty suspicious if you ask me.
See, even the night watchman at the bank is just looking out the window. Not doing his job.
Wait, even the bank teller is working late.
And hey, you! The bank is closed! Go away!
Even the ever hopeful bank robber has paused what she is doing to contemplate the moment.
Clearly some sort of existential dread has rapidly spread among the residents of Lego City. Never making a sound. Never moving an inch. All for fear of what? I just don’t get it.

The figure in the mask was just taking proper PPE precautions and encouraging social distancing.

Fear not, this is completely normal. Every once in a while, a song gets stuck in a minifigure’s head. A little-known fact about minifigures is that, like yawning, a song stuck in a minifigure’s head is contagious and can quickly spread to every other minifigure within a 700 stud radius. If that song is their beloved anthem (I throw my hands up in the air sometimes, singin’ aaaaaayo, I’m a Leeeeego!), the minifigures will stand there reverently for the duration of the song (actually dancing to this song is permitted only during sanctioned events) . They would put their hands over their hearts, but that’s physically impossible, so the next best thing for them is to stand there motionless. Within a few minutes, these minifigures should be back to normal.

While armed. Not all preppers have turned into a wuss in the absence of their hairdresser and spa day.

The opportunity just presented itself. I actually only posed one (1) minifigure over the course of the photo shoot.

So what you are saying is that the diner set with its jukebox is a bad influence? I may need to separate them.
I also scanned these old brochures that I found. I love how they posed all the sets together and took professional photographers, a stark contrast to the renders on the boxes today.

No need to separate them from their tunes. Minifigures only get a song stuck in their head once every two weeks. Granted, this exact time is different for every minifigure, so minifigures in an environment with lots of other minifigures may have a song stuck in their head often. It is only when the anthem is stuck in their heads in the month of May that they freeze like this.
I wanna celebrate and live my life
Saying ay-oh, baby LEEEEEEGO
!
‘Cause we gon’ rock this club
We gon’ go all night
We gon’ light it up
Like it’s dynamite
‘Cause I told you once
Now I told you twice
We gon’ light it up
Like it’s dynamite

Only during the whole month of May? Oh no! Maybe I can get them hooked on a less dangerous song
Every day I’d watch them beauties roll by
And sometimes I’d hang my head and cry
‘Cause I always wanted me one that was small and yellow
.
One day I devised myself a plan
That should be the envy of most any man
I’d sneak it out of there in a lunchbox in my hand
Now gettin’ caught meant gettin’ fired
But I figured I’d have it all by the time I retired
I’d have me a minifigure
worth at least a hundred grand.

I dug my brick separator into the side
Of his pretty little souped-up four-wheel drive
Carved my name into his plastic seats
I took apart both head lights
I disassembled
all four tires
Maybe next time he’ll think before he cheats

So your minifigs are up to no good too. Murder I see.
That’s no laughing matter. And that one poor guy just realized he’s naked and staring at a corpse.
BTW I shone a light inside the buildings through a window or skylight in a mostly dark room. It’s really fun to just look at.
